Our "Home From Home" is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience in a real domestic setting, fostering skills that translate directly to daily life.
Practice preparing simple meals, following recipes, understanding nutrition, and mastering the step-by-step processes of daily food preparation.
Learn essential safety protocols, safe appliance usage, knife skills, food hygiene, and hazard awareness in a highly supervised environment.
Develop executive functioning skills through meal planning, organizing ingredients, timing different cooking elements, and post-meal cleanup.
The environment has been thoughtfully adapted to accommodate a wide range of physical, sensory, and cognitive needs, ensuring a comfortable and empowering experience.
Adjustable lighting, quiet appliances, and organized, uncluttered spaces to reduce sensory overload.
Clear labeling, visual schedules, and step-by-step pictorial guides available for all routines.
Clear walkways, easy-grip utensils, lightweight cookware, and secure, stable work surfaces.
1 Hour
Familiarization with the space, basic safety overview, and simple non-cook preparation (e.g., sandwiches, smoothies).
2 Hours
Full meal preparation including planning, cooking, eating together, and cleanup. Ingredients included.
All sessions are provided on a 1:1 basis with a qualified SEND teacher. Parents/Carers are welcome to stay in the adjacent lounge area during the first few sessions until the young person feels comfortable.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone, we ask that all visitors adhere to a few simple guidelines.
Hands must be washed upon arrival and aprons worn during food prep.
Safety instructions regarding hot surfaces and sharp objects must be followed at all times.
Closed-toe, non-slip shoes must be worn in the kitchen area.
Treat the equipment and environment with care, as it is a shared resource.
